Prerequisites

• No prior knowledge of Kannada is required

• Basic knowledge of the English language

Objectives

• Build basic vocabulary

  • • • Numbers 1-6, Colors (6), Relationships - Closest family

      • Body parts and verbs associated with them

      • Plants, Animals - connecting body parts to animals

      • Pronouns - Personal (1st ನಾನು / ನಾವು and 3rd ಅವನು ಅವಳು ಅದು ಅವರು ಅವು ), Demonstrative and Spatial interrogatives (ಅದು, ಅವು, ಇದು, ಇವು, ಅತ್ತ ಇತ್ತ ), Possessive (personal - ನನ್ನ ನಮ್ಮ )

      • Locative preposition (ಮೇಲೆ ಕೆಳಗೆ )

      • Common nouns

      • Adjectives -ಅದು ..ದೊಡ್ಡದು, ನೀಲಿಯದು

• Introduce grammar concept: 3rd person present tense for neuter nouns

• Sentences

  • • • Ability to describe objects like ಎರಡು ಕೆಂಪು ಹೂವುಗಳು

      • Adjective Comparative - ( ಗಿಂತ, ಕ್ಕಿಂತ, ಇಗಿಂತ - ಇಲಿಗಿಂತ ಆನೆ ದೊಡ್ಡದು)

      • Possessive sentence - ಇದು ನನ್ನ ಮನೆ

• Verbs

  • • • Imperative verbs - a simple form of verbs are imperative (order) ಓದು, ತಿನ್ನು

        • • Adding negative imperative to verb (direct - ಬೇಡ, Impersonal - ಬಾರದು )

      • Adverbs - ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ

      • State of Being Verb: ಇದೆ, ಇವೆ, ಇರು

        • • Combine with adverbs or locative ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಕೆಳಗಿದೆ

          • Noun case Locative (ಸಪ್ತಮಿ ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ) - alli - ಅಲ್ಲಿ (ದಲ್ಲಿ, ಯಲ್ಲಿ, ವಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಇನಲ್ಲಿ)

• Adding progressive marker to verbs making Present Participle (how?) to an imperative verb: ಓದುತ್ತಾ ತಿನ್ನು

  • • • Make simple imperative sentences like ನಿಂತು ಓದು

      • Introduction to Tenses - Present Perfect - ಮಲಗಿ ಇದೆ

• Script: Short vowel letters and consonant letters and subscripts for na, da, and blends

Note: If you have prior knowledge of Kannada and you have been practicing regularly, the instructor may waive this requirement

  • Gentive / Possesive - (ಷಷ್ಠಿ - ಅ - ದ, ಯ, ವಿನ/ಇನ )

  • Accusative / Objective - (ದ್ವಿತೀಯ -ಅನ್ನು - ವನ್ನು, ಯನ್ನು, ವನ್ನು/ಅನ್ನು)

  • Instrumental / Ablative - (ತೃತೀಯ - ಇಂದ - ದಿಂದ, ಯಿಂದ, ವಿಂದ / ಇನಿಂದ )

  • Dative (ಚತುರ್ಥಿ - ಗೆ - ಕ್ಕೆ, ಗೆ, ವಿಗೆ/ಇಗೆ )

• 3rd person tenses

  • ಇತ್ತು/ಇದ್ದವು, ಇದೆ/ಇವೆ , ಇರುತ್ತೆ / ಇರುತ್ತವೆ ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

  • Future tense for neuter nouns

    • Status of being furture (ಇರುತ್ತೆ )

    • Simple furture (ಬರುತ್ತೆ), Furture Perfect (with an adverb ಬಂದಿರುತ್ತೆ), Furture Progressive (ಬರುತ್ತಾ ಇರುತ್ತೆ )

  • Past tense for neuter nouns

    • Status of being past (ಇತ್ತು )

    • Simple past (ಬಂದಿತು / ಬಂತು), Past Perfect (with an adverb ಬಂದಿತ್ತು ), Past Progressive (ಬರುತ್ತಾ ಇತ್ತು )

• Script: Long vowel letters and consonant letters and subscripts for na da, la and blends
